It is probably fair to say that most organisations didn’t predict the pandemic. If you had scenario-planned for such an event, you probably weren’t expecting it in early 2020 and may have now needed to adjust your business plans and forecasts accordingly. 

That need for robust scenario-planning might change from hereon in, but for now most organisations are struggling to cope with the present fall out, including staff issues, maintaining income streams and organisational resilience and an even more uncertain future.

If you’re a leader coping with these issues, how can you ensure you make consistently good decisions?

There are, as always, some useful tips to be sourced from the internet and social media, which is great for crisis pre-planning. But now that we are very much caught in the eye of the storm, and what’s needed right now are practical, bespoke solutions to current problems and you won’t find those on the web.

The loneliness of leaders is a well-known concept. In short, the higher a leader rises in an organisation, the greater responsibility they carry and the fewer, trusted colleagues there are to properly confide in, when it comes to leading and ensuring that good decisions are made. Making good decisions is critical to the efficacy of a leader and those that do make consistently good decisions will admit that they don’t make them in isolation, but often use thinking-partners, also known as coaches.
