For his commitment to community service and giving, both as a board member of various not-for-profit organizations and as long-time leader of North American firm Katz, Sapper & Miller, David Resnick has been honored by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash.

Curt Miller, Resnick’s mentor and predecessor at KSM, presented the Sagamore during a surprise virtual firm-wide celebration in December 2020. The celebration, attended by firm employees, retired partners, and Resnick’s family, marked the end of his 18-year term as managing partner. He has since assumed the role of KSM’s chair of the board and continues to serve his clients.

The Sagamore of the Wabash is among the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Hoosier and is given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state of Indiana or to Indiana’s governor. Resnick joins an illustrious group that includes astronauts, presidents, ambassadors, artists, musicians, politicians, and ordinary citizens who have contributed greatly to Indiana’s heritage.

“Receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash is undoubtedly one of the highlights of my time as managing partner of KSM and I am humbled by the honor. Serving our central Indiana community and its people has been a privilege and I look forward to many more years of service.” David Resnick, Chair of the Board, Katz, Sapper & Miller

Growing up on the north side of Indianapolis, Resnick was instilled with the belief that everyone has a duty to better their community. He carried this principle into adulthood and as KSM’s managing partner made community involvement central to the firm’s culture.

Resnick’s community initiatives during his tenure include establishing an annual firm-wide day of volunteer service in 2009; underwriting the restoration and maintenance of the City Market Clock, an icon of downtown Indianapolis; helping to create a permanent centennial exhibit on the Indianapolis Central Library and its importance to the community; and financial support of the Eva Kor Outreach and Education program. This past year, KSM made meaningful financial contributions to Gleaners Food Bank as the COVID pandemic began and to organizations working for social justice. Beyond its annual match of employees’ charitable donations of up to $500, KSM also matched employee donations to help the food-insecure and support social justice as part of its KSM Cares initiative.

Tim Cook
“David is quick to say his community service makes him a better leader. We believe David has made us a better, more compassionate company and our entire state a better place to live and work.” Tim Cook, CEO and President, Katz, Sapper & Miller

When it comes to community involvement, Resnick will not be slowing down any time soon. He maintains his position on numerous high-profile community boards, including those of Indiana Landmarks, United Way of Central Indiana, Indiana University Health Philanthropy Council, University of Indianapolis, and WFYI Foundation.
