PrimeGlobal Insight: Post Pandemic Work Culture

ALL Insights
August 12, 2021

The COVID-19 Pandemic has changed the way we work. With many businesses struggling to find the right balance between working from home and flexible work arrangements, there is a clear need to limit disruption and find a path to creating a balanced workplace. Many businesses are finding new ways to make employees feel comfortable, focusing on staff wellbeing and creating more inclusive and understanding environments for their teams.

We asked our members to share their experiences of the impact of the pandemic on firm culture, work-life balance, and the future of the traditional office workplace.

Returning to the office?

Throughout the pandemic, many people have dramatically adapted their work routines, schedules, and environments. Many companies realized that they do not need their staff in an office, that they can get most things done remotely. As societies across the world continue to reopen it will be the responsibility of business leaders to ensure employees have complete choice in whether they return to the office, or not.

We asked our members how they are preparing to return to work; whether they are returning to the office, working from home full time or if their firms are exploring hybrid-custom work schedules. The poll revealed that 63% of respondents will be returning to a work on a flexible work schedule with only 17% of respondents saying that they will be returning to the office full time.

The Covid Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused uncertainty and disruption for economic and financial markets across the world. Virtually all industries and sectors are facing challenges associated with the pandemic and are having to find new ways to work, build, and regrow.

Many of our firms reported strong performances during the pandemic as seen in PrimeGlobal's record growth in 2020/21. However, this does not mean that PrimeGlobal firms have not felt the effects of COVID-19 on their business, culture, and employee wellbeing. We asked our members whether they felt that their firms had been negatively affected by COVID-19. 58% of respondents said that their firm had felt the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Focusing on People

Employee wellbeing has received a lot of attention over the past year, and it is up to leaders to build new work cultures that translate across different environments. The mental wellbeing of employees has become crucial to building a stable business during a time of such global and economic uncertainty.

Employers will need to adapt a range of measures to support employees experiencing poor mental health because of COVID-19 and its effects on society and the economy. Creating a work-life balance that generates a productive yet comfortable place to work will be the challenge for businesses. With many people working from home and following hybrid work schedules, our reliance on technology has dramatically increased over the past twelve months. We asked our members whether they felt fatigued by the amount of time they spend on a screen. More than 80% of respondents to our poll said that they have experienced "Zoom Fatigue".
