Developing a positive workplace culture is high on the agenda for Lane Gorman Trubitt, LLC’s (LGT), and contributing to this culture is the promotion of over 20 team members internally, announced at the quarterly staff meeting in August. The firm is thrilled to have so many talented individuals to promote from within and looks forward to fostering the success of their careers in the future by providing resources and programs for both technical and non-technical growth.

Flexible Work Hours

Promotions at LGT are based on performance rather than time spent at the firm. This allows employees to move up at their own pace to accommodate each person’s lifestyle and maintain a satisfying work/life balance while achieving his or her career goals. To facilitate this balance, the firm offers flexible hours paired with hybrid work schedules to accommodate employees’ personal schedules. As of 2022, the majority of the firm is operating on hybrid schedules, working partially in person at the office and partially at home.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Initiatives

In addition to flexible work hours, LGT recently formed a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee in 2021. This committee works to implement a culture of diversity within the firm. The team has coordinated events such as Diversity Day, a day in which employees decorated their desks with items, posters, and dishes representing their backgrounds and cultures and welcomed coworkers and families to learn more about them; an international potluck where employees shared dishes representing their heritage; and field trips to various historical sites in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area, such as a recent firm trip to the Holocaust & Human Rights Museum. Additionally, the firm has ongoing diversity training, frequent seminars, and workshops welcoming speakers to provide diversity education.

Healthy Work/Life Balance

LGT also promotes a healthy work/life balance by initiating activities to relieve stress and promote a healthy lifestyle. The firm offers a wellness program that includes virtual yoga classes, a run club, catered healthy lunches, lunch and learns on various wellness topics, an on-site massage therapist, and Meditation Mondays. In-firm events to promote fun include an annual salsa contest, chili cook off, and cornhole tournament, as well as social events such as an end-of-busy season party, happy hours, and department outings like attending professional sporting events.

Young Professionals Program

The firm has around 45 employees under the age of 30 and promotes a Young Professionals program that develops personal and professional skills inside and outside the office. This program includes volunteer and service opportunities, such as volunteering with the North Texas Food Bank and The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center. The group also coordinates social activities, such as tailgates at local sporting events, participation in competitive sports such as volleyball, soccer, and kickball teams, and after-work happy hours and networking socials.

Leadership and Education Opportunities

In promoting leadership and education advancement opportunities, LGT offers a CPA Success Program which includes a bank of money to help fund CPA exam expenses, such as study materials and test fees, as well as bonuses to those who pass. LGT also offers paid Study Hall hours, totaling about 100 hours a year, where staff are paid to study for their exams. Employees are also eligible for tuition reimbursement to complete college courses related to their field. The firm offers leadership training and development by providing a formal mentoring program that pairs employees in different departments into confidential mentor relationships, encouraging mentors to meet with their mentees at least once a month to share personal knowledge. LGT also participates in the Emerging Leaders Academy program for future leaders of the firm.

This process allows employees to find their passion and fit in the accounting world before truly becoming an expert in the industry they serve.
