More than ever, a robust corporate wellness program is a must to promote healthy outcomes for employees and their families – an outcome that demonstrably benefits both employee and employer. Such programs should be easy for employees to understand and utilize, while customizable for their specific needs.

At Sikich LLP, their wellness program encourages lifelong healthy lifestyle choices and, equally as important, attitudes. Each of their wellness initiatives is designed with their firm's core values in mind to raise awareness, provide information and education, and offer incentives supporting healthy living.

They believe that technology, too, is vital to any wellness program. In evaluating the broad spectrum of wellness tools now available to organizations, they have prioritized two specific tools: the Vitality wellness platform and Ginger, app-based mental health support.

Vitality: Wellness Platform and Smartphone App

Vitality is an active, fully integrated wellness program platform and mobile app designed to engage, encourage and reward employees on their personal pathway to better health. Features include wellness challenges, as well as the ability to sync personal tracking devices to accrue Vitality Points.

The service offers the Vitality Health Review (VHR), a confidential 10-15 minute online questionnaire available on the Vitality website or the Vitality Today mobile app that assesses current health based on physical activity, diet, stress level and other factors. Participants will also receive their scientifically calculated Vitality Age, a unique measure of a participant's “true” age determined from lifestyle behaviors. In addition, Vitality Reviews include a Mental Well-Being Review and Physical Activity Review.

Goal-setting is a key component of the Vitality platform. Participants earn Vitality Points on their journey toward achieving them. Goals can include workouts, smoking cessation, reducing debt, and improved sleep.

As part of the Vitality program, Sikich offers Wellness Challenges to engage, challenge and empower employees to take responsibility for their own well-being. Participants can set goals, track progress and stay motivated with access to daily tips, online resources and healthy recipes.

Ginger: Mental Health Support Smartphone App

Sikich also offers employees free access to Ginger, an app supporting emotional and mental health. All employees are automatically enrolled, even those not enrolled in Sikich's medical plan.

Ginger offers confidential, on-demand emotional and mental health support for life challenges through coaching via text-based chats, self-guided activities, and video-based therapy and psychiatry, all from the privacy of a smartphone, within seconds. Coaches are available to chat 24/7, 365 days per year. Private video sessions with a therapist or psychiatrist are available outside of business hours on evenings and weekends. Ginger's support is strictly confidential, with information securely stored and protected by law.

Services provided by Ginger include:

  • Behavioral Health Coaching: within seconds, members can chat live via text with trained behavioral health coaches, to receive 24/7 emotional support for day–to–day life challenges such as managing anxiety or improving sleep.
  • Therapy and Psychiatry: if needed, members can access virtual therapy or psychiatry within hours. Licensed therapists and psychiatrists work together with coaches and can deliver sessions outside of business hours.
  • Skill-Building Activities: activities are clinically validated to teach a wide range of life skills, like deep breathing to reduce stress. They are hand-picked for members by their coaches based on individual needs and goals.

In summary

As organizations embark on a new year, they are likely closely attuned to the health of their employees after nearly two years of prolonged stress and changing work conditions. Sikich are committed to paying close attention to feedback and the current public dialogue around what employees are needing. This work is not finished, and they will continue to prioritize understanding and responding to the needs of their employees in order to support their optimal well-being.
