Buzzacott Advises Downing LLP on Solar Portfolio Acquisition

December 18, 2024 - BuzzacottMember firm Buzzacott has assisted Downing in expanding its investment vehicle for charitable institutions through the acquisition of a portfolio of domestic rooftop solar installations.

Downing Sustainable Investment (DSI), managed by Downing LLP, has acquired a portfolio of around 2,900 domestic rooftop solar installations that provide electricity to tenants of 6 housing associations across Yorkshire, the East Midlands, and East Anglia.
DSI is an investment vehicle designed specifically for charitable institutions. DSI’s mandate is to provide access to renewable energy investments that can deliver a broader positive environmental impact, as well as regular attractive returns that can support a charity’s day-to-day investment objectives.
Buzzacott provided transaction advisory, financial and tax due diligence, and VAT consultancy services to Downing.
The transaction team was made up of James Wood (Associate Director) and Megan Leonard-Moran (Assistant Manager), overseen by Alex Judd (Partner).
The tax team was led by Luke Savvas (Partner), supported by Kazia Kruszewski (Senior Manager), Nick Lee (Supervisor) as well as Kam Chauhan (Director) from a specialist VAT team.
