Meet the Speakers, Tax & Assurance Summit: David Emmerman from Xero
Business Opportunities
December 2, 2022With the Tax and Assurance Summit taking place in Palm Springs in January next year, PrimeGlobal spoke to David Emmerman, Head of Enterprise Sales - US, at Xero, and a speaker at this upcoming event. We asked him to share more information about his session, what he is most looking forward to from the event, and what was the best work advice he has been given.

Change management focuses on how to help people engage, adopt, and use a change in their day-to-day work, yet “change” remains a scary word to many. Attendees to our forthcoming Tax and Assurance Summit will walk away from David's session with an understanding of what happens psychologically when we experience change and get equipped with the tools to identify healthy ways to deal with change and uncertainty.
Tell us a bit about your session.
In this session we will dive into how we are impacted by change from a psychological perspective and how change impacts each and everyone of us in different ways. We will go through how change feels and only than Once we understand how we are impacted by change then and only then can you truly start to work through how this impacts your personal and professional goals. Goals are great to give us direction, however oftentimes we don't really reflect upon how we get off track from those goals and the catalyst for that.
What you are most looking forward to from the summit?
I really enjoy attending the PrimeGlobal events, and getting to interact and watching the way that firms within your events interact as a community. At Xero one of our core values is #team, well attending your associations' events is much like watching firms embrace that value as a community that exemplifies that value.
What’s the best work advice you have been given?
You have to know when not to push back on some things. For people with drive and a seat at the table, which we most all do in some capacity, this can be a very difficult thing to identify quickly and control. If you can identify these feelings in time it can help to curb undue stress for that not everything always has to be perfect all of the time.
"What goes along really well with this advice is control the controllables and don't focus on those things that you can't control. This is a pretty common saying, but to keep this front of mind, when things get challenging or difficult is the perfect time to lean back on this." David Emmerman, Head of Enterprise Sales - US, at Xero
What do you like to do outside of work?
I have put a bigger emphasis on this in more recent times, especially in a post covid world, when many just dove into work and we didn't exactly have the clearest of boundaries. First off I would say family and getting to spend time with my kids and my partner and her kids is really enjoyable and chaotic at the same time. You can regularly find me on the sidelines of a soccer match or a hockey game cheering on the teams and poking at the refs. After that when I really want to decompress golf and skiing depending on the season is where you find me spending my spare time. I find that with both of these activities, even if you're playing and skiing with others, I'm really disconnected from my day-to-day, which is an amazing feeling.
David will be speaking at the forthcoming Tax and Assurance Summit, Palm Springs 8-10 January. His session is entitled 'Navigating change to meet your goals'.
