This is an article from PrimeGlobal member firm Thomas Westcott in the United Kingdom. The article looks at the launch of their new programme of activity to support their employees’ health and wellbeing, 'Wellbeing Wednesdays'.

In January 2021, Thomas Westcott launched a programme of activity to support their employees’ health and wellbeing. The firm decided to run 'Wellbeing Wednesdays' throughout the year. This involved sharing weekly updates, with advice and information on a range of topics.

Simon Irvin
“We felt it was important to do something to support our team with their health and wellbeing. We were aware that other firms had similar programmes, but also knew that some only ran theirs monthly while others ran out of steam and weren’t able to sustain them. We decided that we had to be 100% committed to weekly communications, featuring information and advice on a whole range of wellbeing topics. Our Wellbeing Wednesdays have been very well received and we are continuing with them in 2022.” Simon Irvin, Head of HR, Thomas Westcott

Thomas Westcott’s Wellbeing Wednesdays focused on topics including mental health, menopause, building resilience, healthy eating, financial wellbeing and dyslexia awareness.  The firm also gave staff access to free first aid training. While some focused on serious topics, such as alcohol awareness and pregnancy loss, the firm also took a more light-hearted approach to some, including inviting staff to share pictures of their pets.

Thomas Westcott holds a Silver Investors in People award. In its latest report, the assessors praise the firm “looking after staff personally and professionally” across its large network of offices.

The firm offers a range of benefits to staff, including discounted private medical insurance, the Cycle to Work scheme, and access to the Westfield Health Scheme, which offers a range of health support and medical procedures.

Simon Irvin
“The wellbeing support we offer our staff is something we remain absolutely committed to. As an employer, we have a responsibility to support our staff with their physical, mental and emotional health as well as their professional development.” Simon Irvin, Head of HR, Thomas Westcott
